Home invasion
Jasper County Sheriff’s Department received an alarm call on February 8th around 10 AM, LT Jeremy Pinson arrived on scene and checked the residence. The home owner called stating he had pictures from his wireless game cameras of the people on his property. The homeowner was able to send LT Pinson the pictures. LT Pinson began patrolling the area for the suspects. Deputies coming to assist, observed two male subjects fitting the descriptions, one on a ATV and the other next to a running vehicle at the intersection of Highway 503 and CR 35. Deputies made contact with the subjects. One subject fled from deputies into a wooded area, while the other suspect, Montez Lapatrice Gavin, was detained and transported to the Jasper County Jail. Deputies recovered two of the game cameras believed to have been taken from the property of residence, along with a 12 gauge shotgun, miscellaneous ammunition, gloves and face mask believed to be used in the home invasion. On 11-04-2019, at approximately, 9 AM Heidelberg Police Chief, Huey Powe received a call about a suspicious red vehicle at a residence on CR 820 located outside the city limits. Chief Powe responded with the home owner to the residence and noticed that the front door appeared to have been kicked open. The Sheriff’s Department was notified by Chief Powe about what he discovered at the residence. The Sheriff’s Department received a call about a one vehicle accident on CR 359 involving a red car. Chief Powe and deputies arrived at the accident scene and were notified by Denbury employees and employees of a service company that a black male was seen on the pipeline a short distance from the accident scene. Chief Powe took the male into custody and Deputy Dewayne Hawkins apprehend another male suspect a short distance from the scene. Property taken from the residence on CR 820 was recovered from the vehicle and in a wooded area near the accident scene. Both suspects were checked by ASAP Ambulance Service before being transported to JCSO. Thanks to all departments involved, and to the citizens for helping apprehend these suspects.
On August 11,2019 at approximately 4:15 PM, a Deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, received a call from a resident on CR 33 in the Claiborne community. The resident reported to the deputy that two suspicious people had been seen going in a shed behind a residence near CR 33 and CR 31 intersection. Deputies arrived in the area and found Joseph Allan Smith and Danyell Little in the area. Deputies questioned these two individuals and while doing so found some items in the ditch which were identified as items that were once in the shed. While Deputies were at the scene, a car driven by Alice Mina Lofton and occupied Thomas Eric Bordlon and Andrew Wesley Jones, pulled into the residence where the deputies and two suspects were. Deputies spoke with Alice Lofton and received a verbal consent to search the car. Items reported stolen from a burglary call on CR 359 earlier that morning were discovered in the trunk of the vehicle. All five suspects were discovered to be together and were charged with Burglary of a dwelling. Bond will be set by Judge Sullivan Dukes later today.







Arrest made in ATV thefts from CR 10 in the Stringer area as well as from CR 13 in the Louin area. Three arrest have been made in connection with the thefts on CR 10 in Stringer Community, Burriel Sumrall from Jasper County, Michael Dillian McWilliams, and Donnie D. Jefcoat both from Jones County. A warrant has also been issued for Robert Crews of Jones County in connection with this case.

Acting on a tip on the whereabouts of Malik Harris, Bay Springs Police Department along with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home on Smith St. in Bay Springs. Authorities made verbal contact with Harris at the residence. Harris refused to surrender to authorities. We reached out to Jones County Sheriff’s Department for support and they were responding with an armored vehicle and additional swat members. After a 30 to 45 minute standoff, Harris surrendered to authorities without incident, and Jones County was notified their assistance was no longer needed. Harris was transported to the Jasper County Jail and is being charged with Aggravated Assault. Harris bond will be set by Judge Marvin Jones at a later time.
